The Department Head is responsible for administering an academic department within a college which may include and is not limited to, faculty recruitment and development, faculty evaluation, program development, program review, curriculum development, student advisement, departmental budgeting and budget control, class schedule planning, and general supervision of the teaching, research, and service and related scholarly activities of the department.
The Department Head facilitates a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds

Description

    The hotels, catering and tourism sector is one of the fastest growing sectors of the global economy. It is also among the top-job creating sectors because of its labour intensive nature and its significant multiplier effect on employment in other related sectors. Yet, the sector has a reputation of poor working conditions due to a number of factors: it is a fragmented industry with the majority of employers being small and medium sized enterprises with low union density, and work
    The hospitality industry is a broad group of businesses that provide services to customers. It relies on discretionary spending by consumers as well as the consumer's availability and free time. There must be a demand for leisure activities for the industry to be successful because the experiences which the hospitality industry provide are not necessities of life.
   The role of the hospitality industry is to provide unique, professional, and memorable experiences for consumers during their free time, at a cost. The focus of the hospitality industry is the customer and giving them the best experience possible. The hospitality industry relies on the national economy to be successful.
   Within an economy, many industries exist to stimulate and grow the nation. Primary industries harvest raw materials from the earth. Secondary industries manufacture the raw materials into finished products. Tertiary industries, also called service industries, provide consumers with intangible work and services that the average person would not be able to complete on their own. Quaternary industries are those which provide information and technology services. While each industry type plays an important role in society, this lesson will focus on an important division of service industries called the hospitality industry.
